Even during a pandemic: Concerned Citizens for the Homeless in Newmarket, led and chaired by Ross Carson, have achieved services for Newmarket citizens, many of whom are vulnerable and live with few resources. The CCHN received funding from the United Way for the Supper Club. They spurred the winter months Drop-by centre at Ray Twinney Recreation. They have been in contact with Newmarket’s mayor and staff of the Region. They have delved into applying for money for affordable housing.
Lori Yaccato, with the Affordable Housing Coalition of York Region, and the Social Planning council, has been advocating for many years for affordable housing. Now there are more people involved, including the Mayor of Newmarket.
